Women in Engineering and Inclusion and Diversity at Lam
Is it a problem, the lower percentage of women in engineering? While the statistic does show that we have lower percentages of women in the semiconductor workforce, the good news is that we also have numbers to show that the trend is improving.  There is no better time than now to discuss this topic. Many factors contribute to the insufficient gender diversity: gender stereotyping, engineering culture, lower enrollment of women in technical degree programs, etc. One of the hardest challenges is work/life balance. I took time off from work to become a stay at home mom shortly after our son
was born.  This resulted in a lapse in my career.  When I was ready to return, I took a pay cut and settled for a lower position. But I was able to catch up and made up for my lost years after a few years by choosing to come to work at Lam Research.   Being a merit-based company, Lam Research rewards employees based on their performance, not demographics nor gender.  Lam Research is committed to supporting Women in Industry as part of our Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) initiative. Our global technical training organization is committed to developing customer knowledge, capability, and technical expertise through effective training courses for both hardware and software.  Lam’s training staff develop the technical capabilities of customer and Lam engineers through effective and efficient knowledge and skill transfer to enable optimized installation, performance, and productivity of Lam systems in customer fabs.   Our training centers are staffed by certified instructors and equipped with the most advanced equipment.

Lam collaborates with universities and academic consortia around the globe by supporting leading-edge research and building strong relationships with graduate and undergraduate students and professors. Lam’s university engagements include scholarships and fellowships, research projects, thesis awards, and scholarly competitions, sponsored events, research consortia, and lab affiliations, and industry tours.
